You know what they say, small towns produce the best food joints! I was only passing through and noticed the BBQ spot off Highway 77. It had about 6 cars so I pulled in. Parking is tight but there's enough spacing on the lot whether grabbing your food to-go or dining in.
Upon entering there's a small bench outside to sit and eat. I entered and literally salivated at the smell of the BBQ. I glanced at the few options on the menu and went for the 2 plate combo ($11.50) which is your choice of 2 meats- sliced or chopped brisket, chicken, sausage or ribs, 2 sides- baked beans and potato salad, 2 slices of bread, onions and pickles. They also have other food options such as tacos, sandwiches, burger/fries, family packs, etc. The food is served pretty quickly and the gentleman cutting the meat is right in front. I believe that swayed my decision to get brisket because it was sliced so smoothly and I loved how juicy and flavorful it looked. And again, it smelled amazing! After I ordered, I sat down at the nearby table until my order was ready (took less than 1 minute). Once complete, you pay and you're on your way. The food was amazing! I noticed no BBQ sauce was served with the food but there was no need for it. The sausage was yum and tasted like nothing I'd had before and the brisket and those burnt ends were a fav.
There's a small connecting room next to where you order with tall tables, chairs and TV's where several people were dining in. There was a small cooler with a few canned sodas for purchase. You can definitely tell this restaurant is a town favorite as customer service was nice and friendly and most everyone knew each other on a first name basis. I'm glad I passed through and would highly encourage others to check out Lil Joe's BBQ as you won't be disappointed! -

Don't let the outside turn you off. A real Texan know this is exactly what you're looking for! Had a Chopped Brisket Sandwich...awesome--juicy, melt in your mouth, great sauce. They gave us a couple of ribs to sample--so tender, just fell off the bone. Very friendly--could have enjoyed hanging out there just to hear Joe chat with the regulars. We will be back!

My sister and I were on our way to LaGrange when we drove through Rosebud and spotted this little gem. Since we were both starving, we decided that barbecue sounded delicious. We were not disappointed. We were met with a friendly staff and delicious food. It was a little pricey for just the 2 of us, totaling out to a little over $27, but worth it.

Lil-Joe's may look like a hole in the wall barbecue joint. However, when you go inside it's got great atmosphere and even better food! They are true barbecue kings and queens!

We were driving home and decided we wanted Barbecue so I pulled up Yep just as we passed Lil Joe's. Five star reviews! So we turned around and went back. We were not disappointed. Tender, juicy meat and a friendly owner and staff. We will be back when we pass through Rosebud again!
